Upcycle Christmas!

I am taking part in Folksy’s Upcycle Christmas project which will raise money for Sue Ryder Care, a charity devoted to helping those with end-of-life or long-term care needs. The project involves 200 participants who will find something from the Sue Ryder charity stores and ‘upcycle’ it into something new which can be sold at auction. All proceeds will go to Sue Ryder Care.

Today I visited my local Sue Ryder store and bought a fabulous 80s tartan jacket from Jaeger. It is 100% wool and feels lovely on the skin. Think it will become a more cropped jacket. Something with some lovely draping. Stay tuned for updates.

Sew good

It is hard to resist a bad pun sometimes. I have been sewing today for the first time in years as my old machine packed it in a while ago. I have been very good at resisting the lure of the shops all this year whilst being a student. But now that I am job hunting it is time to revamp the wardrobe.

I have lots of recycled fabrics, collected over the years, and loads of great 60s and 70s patterns found in charity shops. The smock below is the first thing I have made, and now I am going to start a bag or perhaps some jeans.

In the spirit of skill sharing proposed as part of the The Bigger Picture: Festival of Interdependence, I am going to be teaching two people to sew. I met Susana at the Greengaged conference and she expressed her desire to learn to sew. Not sure what her trade will be, but am hoping that it might be some homemade Portugese custard tarts.
